Upper GI Endoscopy

I went in yesterday for an upper GI Endoscopy. I was very nervous, but everything went well. We arrived at 8 am and I filled out the paperwork. They called me back and gave me a gown to wear and started an IV. My veins are so small that it took her a couple of tries to get the IV started. They went ahead and wheeled me back to the procedure room. I was really nervous, but the nurses were really nice. She told me that they were going to start my medicine to put me out and for me to roll over on my side. I rolled over, thinking they were going to stick me in the rear or something, but I guess that helped the medicine flow in the IV better. They sprayed a solution in my mouth to numb my throat that tasted horrible, and that was the last thing I remember.

The next thing I knew I was waking up at my mom's house at 2:30 pm. I was out for 6 hours! I didn't even know how I got my clothes back on, or remember getting home. Mom said it was quite amusing trying to get me ready to leave. She said she was taking off the little round sticky things that hook you up to the machine, and I was grabbing them telling her that they have to stay on. And apparently the guy next to me had a lower procedure done, because the nurses were telling him that he had a lot of air built up and he needed to pull his legs up and get it out. His wife was yelling, "Honey! They want you to fart!" I asked mom, "Is that Stephen next door? He farts..." Ha!

The doctor said everything was ok. I did have a hiatal hernia, but that is somewhat common. He still wants to check out my gallbladder. He took a bioposy of something, and we are waiting to hear back on that. I was so out of it that I don't even remember talking to the doctor, so I will have to call next week.

I will keep you posted. I'm ready for the tests to be over and be back to normal!

Hi Lindsay,
You made my day. I had to laugh at the description you gave of your procedure Friday and how you reacted ( or maybe how you didn't react) but Welcome to the world of medical procedures. I have been there as your mom and dad can confirm. I was out of my head even after I came home after the hysterectomy and I thought I knew everything. That medicine can really play tricks on you. At least you can remember some of what was going on if you remembered the conversation between the man and his wife. How funny! Guess I better let you go as I need to get to bed. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow for a follow-up after my short hospital stay last week. Hope you have a good week this week and sorry about the pink hair but it will soon go away and if it doesn't bother Zoie, I wouldn't worry about it. Love you and hope you get much better soon. Grandma A.

Hi again,
I forgot to tell you but we need to go "Thrift Store shopping". I go to the Goodwill Store here in Yukon just up the street from Buy For Less. They have some pretty nice things in there. I also picked up a boys bike tonight on my way home from church. The chain is rusted but the lady said her son had outgrown it so she just put it out by the curb for someone to pick up. She even put it in the trunk for me which it is still going to be there until I unload it. It looks to be in pretty good shape. Let me know if you would like to get with me soon and go shopping and we might just go get a bite to eat as well. Love you, Grandma A.
