I took Zoie to Snip Its yesterday for her 1st haircut. Yes, it is her first, and she is already 3 years old.
I loved the salon and its setup, and they even had little movies at each of the chairs. We didn't have to wait long, and she sat her down in the big chair and started a movie. I told her it was Zoie's first haircut, and I just wanted it trimmed up and I was growing her bangs out.
Zoie did great. She looked down when she was supposed to, and turned her head when she was told. She was such a big girl and didn't move at all. Of course, they had a movie going, so she was glued to the TV.
She wet her hair, trimmed it up, and asked me if I wanted a braid and some pink in her hair. I said sure, thinking that she was going to put a braid of pink from the massive amount of spools of ribbon that were next to her stand.
As I was looking at my pictures and trying to send a photo to my mom of Zoie's first haircut, I look up to see that she is spraying pink hair color on my daughter's braid. My heart kind of drops, and I say, "That comes out, right?" She said yes, it was temporary. I said even for blonde hair? She said yes, she had never had a problem before.
So I didn't think anything else of it, and she proceeded to spray glitter in Zoie's hair and hairspray, making it pretty. She gave Zoie a sucker for being so good, and she even got a prize of bubbles afterwards. They gave me a lock of her hair to save, and took a picture of her and put it on a little frame and gave her a certificate for her first haircut. It was really a great experience.
until...
I got home and decided to go ahead and give Zoie a bath and get the pink out of her hair. I started rinsing her hair, and began to panic. It wasn't coming out. I yelled for Stephen, and he came in and scrubbed her hair. We used her Suave Kid's Shampoo, Head and Shoulders, Blonde Shampoo, and even my Big Sexy Hair shampoo. Nothing worked. Her hair was pink.
I began to panic even more. I tried to call the store, and they were closed. I called mom and she didn't know what to do. So we all jumped in the car and I drove to Supercuts around the corner from my house. It was 8:15 pm, and they closed at 8. But I knocked on the window and told her I had a question. I explained the situation to her, and she let us in and looked around for something to help. She poured something in a little bottle and gave it to me, and told me to try that. She wasn't going to charge me. I thanked her a dozen times, and we went home. I put the shampoo on her hair and left it like she said. However, it didn't come out. Her hair was still pink.
I tried to fix her hair this morning and hide the pink streak with a bow. Hopefully not too many people would notice my 3-year-old had pink hair.
I called the store to tell them, and they laughed. I could hear the girl on the phone say, "This kid came in yesterday and they put pink in her hair. Do we have anything that will take it out?" Someone in the background said they could try clarifying shampoo. Try?? They told me to bring her in and they would try to get it out.
That was not good enough for me. I was angry they thought it was funny. I wasn't going to let them do anything else to my baby's hair.
So for now, I guess Zoie will just have strawberry blonde hair. I got a few suggestions from friends using dishwashing soap, or baking soda and vinegar. I guess we will be experimenting tonight.
I will let you know how it goes, and if Zoie will be wearing a hat tomorrow...
