Allergy Shots...

Poor Zoie. We took her for allergy testing a couple of weeks ago. She had NO clue as to what was coming, and neither did I, really.
We walked into the exam room, and they asked us to take off her shirt. She was NOT comfortable with this. She wanted it back on, NOW. They started with the foods. The nurse made her face away and they pricked her poor little back with about 20 or so sticks. After waiting 20 minutes for the results, fortunately for us the foods were all negative. No food allergies! This was very surprising to me since she could only drink soy milk for the longest time. I just knew she was allergic to milk, but the doctor said she probably outgrew it.
They went on to the next set--animals. After about 8 more sticks, we found that she was allergic to dogs, cats, feathers and apox (the stuffing in stuffed animals). This was not good since we have a dog at my mom's house that she is around ALL the time. And the doctor told me I had to get rid of my down comforter. Boo...
So after the 20 minute wait after those, it was on to household allergens. Allergic. After that, it was grasses and trees. Allergic. So basically, she was allergic to everything but foods. :(
After over 50 pricks, nickle & quarter sized whelps on her arms, and a lot of tears, we could leave. However, we would have to return weekly for allergy shots. Chuck E. Cheese's did help a little that night, though.
The next couple of days were hard on her. She was basically injected with the poisons that she was allergic to, and it was in her system. She rain fevers and did NOT feel good. Good thing we did it on a Thursday. She was able to spend Friday with my mom, who I am sure babied her... as usual. :)
She has been 3 times now for allergy shots. And every time, she cries. They switch arms each time, but she still fights it. She now knows when we get on the turnpike and asks, "Mom--WHERE are we going?" I try to avoid telling her until we get in the parking lot, although she is bright and already has it figured out.
Hopefully she will get used to the weekly shots. They said she could have to get them for the rest of her life, or it could be just a couple of years. They want to re-test her in 6 months, so we will see if she is getting better.

Zoie's Open House

Zoie had her School Program a couple of weeks ago at her daycare. Each year they put on a show with the 2's, 3's, 4's and 5 year old classes. Family and friends can come and watch the kids sing a couple of songs on stage--or play, turn circles, pick their nose and not pay attention in most cases.

Zoie did so well on stage. She marched right up there with her teacher. As soon as she was positioned, she looked straight up at the microphone and stood there. It was pretty amusing. They had put the microphones just out of the kids' reach, so Zoie stood there looking up at it, waiting for the song to start. They quoted a Bible verse, and sang a couple of songs. She was one of the only ones who was really paying attention and knew the words.

This photo was shot just before one of her classmates tried to get between her and the microphone. (Unfortunately I didn't capture her shoving the kid out of her way.)
Afterwards, we visit her classroom and was able to visit with her teacher and see some of what she had been working on.

I am one proud momma.

Bad, Bad Blogger...

I've been a horrible blogger lately. Shame on me. Someone should slap my hand. :)

So much has been going on though, and I barely have time to breathe. Here are a few tidbits of what we've been doing lately.

1. I've begun cleaning out my flower bed. I didn't do anything with it last summer, and this summer I decided to get on it. I was going to relocate a rose bush with the help of the boy, but once that thing started to turn evil and poke us to death, I found it in our best interest to throw it in file 13. (Isn't that what they call the trash?) I also decided to remove all of the weeds and old mulch that was in there, as well as the creeping green, planty thingy that was taking over. We filled an entire dumpster. I relocated some daffodils from the backyard and even bought some new flowers--persian buttercups, which are now my absolute fave. Love love love them.

2. I also painted my pillar on my porch that was flaking. Yah for me! Dad has been hounding me for, oh, how long have I had my house? Over a year? to paint that dat gum thing, and so I finally busted out the paint and did it. And boy, does it look great. Go meeee, go meee...

3. Last weekend we started the chaotic, yet fun, round of Easter Egg hunts. We took Zoie to the first on on Saturday morning in Mustang. Her age group started at 10:15. We got there a little early and boy, was it cold outside. We waited for a bit and found the perfect spot. Zoie, of course, spotted the big toy truck in the middle and immediately wanted it. I had horrible flashbacks of her 1st Easter and the awful bubble incident where a kid beat her to them, so I told her that if she wanted it she would have to run straight there, grab it, and bring it back to Mommy so she could get some eggs. There were other kids scoping out the goods too, so I was really nervous. But when that gun went off, she ran as fast as her chubby little legs could go, and she got it! I was so proud of her. She brought it back and grabbed another big prize on the way. Then I realized that the parents were helping the other kids, so I took off and helped her get some eggs. It was super fun. I was a proud momma. At 11:00 am was the all ages hunt. We waited around for it, and I didn't realize how chaotic it would be and how it would last .2 seconds. She saw a frisbee she wanted, but we didn't get there in time. We weren't even close. So she began to cry, and we grabbed a couple of eggs and it was over. I comforted her and tried to take her mind off of it by telling her she got a great prize and we had to share, but she wasn't having it. It was too cold, and we were ready to leave.

4. We were supposed to go to another egg hunt from 1-3 pm at UCO, but we drove all the way there and the lady said it was too cold, so they were post-poning it until the next weekend.

5. Zoie was sick on Wednesday night. I went to mom and dad's to pick her up, and she seemed fine. We went shopping at Kohl's for Easter dresses (BAD idea with a hyperactive 3 1/2 year old who won't sit still... bad, bad idea). Afterwards, we went to eat at Chic-fil-a. Zoie wouldn't eat her chicken, only her waffle fries and apple juice. She said her tummy hurt, but I thought it was because she wanted to play. So she went and played for a bit, and then we headed home. When we pulled into the drive, she was sweating and told me she thought she was going to throw up. Weird. I had never heard her say that, so I got her out of the car to get her in the cool breeze. We went in the house and she layed down on the rug. She went to the bathroom and was sitting on the toilet, and next thing I heard was something wet hitting the floor. She had vomited everywhere. Me, having a tender stomach and gag at the drop of a hat, immediately started to feel queasy. I grabbed my nose and was holding it. I was trying to comfort her and get off her clothes (she got sick down the front of her while she was sitting on the toilet). I started her bathwater and the next thing I know, I feel it splatter all over my feet, up my leg, and everywhere. It was DREADFUL. I grabbed my phone and called my sister-- "I need help!" So I tried to pile up the towels and clean it up, and got Z in the tub. All the while, gagging my little head off. Tears streamed down both of our faces. At that moment, I felt like a failure. I couldn't even comfort or help my daughter when she was sick. Mom and Britt came over to help. We got her in bed and she was fine, until about 11 pm. She sleeps with me, and I felt her sit up real fast. I asked her if she was going to be sick, and she shook her head yes. I grabbed the trash can next to the bed and she got sick twice. Poor baby. After that, she went back to sleep and was fine the next morning... Well, for a little while anyway...

6. She had an appointment at the allergy doctor at 9 am. She had no clue what was coming. I really didn't either. I just knew they were going to test her for allergies, but I didn't realize they were going to poke her with needles over 50 times. They did the food testing on her back first, as well as the animals. She wasn't allergic to any foods, which surprised me because she was so sick when she was born with milk. She was highly allergic to dogs, cats and kapox. Feathers were close too. Then they did the dust mites and common household allergens. She did ok on those, and they weren't as bad. Next was mold. Bad. Then the grass was last and they were the worst (besides dogs). They were all pretty bad. So now she has to go and get weekly shots on Saturdays. Hopefully it will make her feel better. Afterwards she was running a fever and wasn't feeling great at all, so I stayed home with her. She took a nap and later that evening we took her to Chuck E. Cheese's. She wasn't feeling good as you could see it in her little eyes, but she still had fun. My poor, poor baby... :(

7. I'm so glad it is Friday! I am going with my sister to the premiere of The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks. He's my favorite author. I got The Last Song for Christmas, and I read it in 3 days. I loved it. I am super excited about it. Britt already bought tickets and we are going to walk around the mall and kill time beforehand. I can't wait!!

8. Tomorrow- More egg hunts! I haven't decided which ones we will go to in the morning, but we are going to UCO's from 1-3. There is also a church in Edmond that has one from 3-5, so maybe afterwards we will go to that one, depending on how Z feels. Then Sunday is Easter and we will probably go to my grandparents' house and then who knows. So it will be a busy, busy weekend. :)
